Those 50's necks take awhile to get used to , but when you do , they feel and sound awesome .

This is the thing, I can't stop thinking about the guitar...it just felt right but I was just a little concerned that I wouldn't get used to the neck and get fed up, all my Gibson are on the slimmer side of things..335,LP classic....

hmm, will mean me getting rid/trading the 335 though (the LP Classic ain't going anywhere as its my number 1 gigger)

I have an R7 from 1995, and although the neck profile is big, it's nothing like the newer ones. I bought it used some years ago in preference to a new one, for that very reason. It might be worth looking around.

I'm like you in the respect that my 335 has a 60's neck whereas my LP has the 50's handful , when I pick up the 335 it feels like a Wizard neck in comparison , but that big lump of mahogany is worth it

My 2007 is big, which concerned me but within an hour, I had to sell everything else cos they were too thin. My R7 will always be my No1. My hands arent huge in any way, but this thing is just perfect. (once a Shugz loom and BK pups were in)

The neck on my R7 is big, but my Strat and Tele necks are bigger.

You guys must have 'lady hands'

I have this problem too. I went for a 50s neck goldtop just because I think they sound better, now I'm having trouble adjusting back to my normal-necked guitars!

Look in to an R0, some of those should have a slimmer profile, though I'm not sure all will have as there seem to be different versions of that guitar too. I think they're a bit more expensive though, and I'm not sure if you'll get a Gold Top.

If my experience is anything to go by don't assume you will just adjust to playing a neck you don't immediately like. The guitars I've bought thinking 'I'll adjust' have always been sold quicker than anything else. If it doesn't work first time round there is usually a reason why. There are necks that just don't work for some people, no matter how much you try - but this doesn't always make sense on paper. e.g. I loved playing an R8, but I really dislike SG Standard necks I've tried, but both are big necks. I'd hate to spend Gibson R money and then not enjoy playing the instrument, so just make sure you want it is what I'm saying.

hmm, thanks for the suggestions, the guitar felt right I must say, didn't have an issue playing the neck, just surprised at how large they are, what bothers me is the fatigue on a gig with such a neck....

it will mean as I said earlier that I will have to put cash towards the deal - 335 + a little cash..

Perhaps the guitar is a little overpriced, but its a shop and overheads blah blah blah, I might just hold out and see what else is out there...might just keep the 335 yet...I already have a Les Paul (a Classic I know, but I think its a corker)
