Ironically - it is thumb over chord discomfort that stops me using some big necks, especially SGs. I have a large palm but relatively short fingers, so I need something a little smaller to let me get my fingers round more when doing thumb over chords. It just varies from guitar to guitar though. I could play an R8 but not an SG, I couldn't play a Baja Tele but I can play a PRS Wide Fat.
I have really long fingers & a large palm, so for me big equals comfort.

My R7 I bought used from a certain forumite a few years ago and it is a corker of a guitar. I love the neck and the fact that it sounds amazing is also a nice bonus.

I'm sure that Gibson changed the shape of the shoulders around 2009/10 so the neck is a bit more rounded. Being hand finished though they will all vary slightly. I much prefer the bigger necks - you soon get used to it.
