    Default New wheeze by eBay

The chiseling twisters who own eBay have now come up with another wheeze.

They are offering extended warranties on goods sold on eBay. eBay automatically do this, and don't inform the seller. I only found out because I looked at one of my listing and found an extended warranty offered!

You can't remove this from your listing.

Extended warranties are a total rip off.

Every now and again I wonder whether I should go back on my firm promise to myself that I would never sell anything on Ebay ever again.

And then I read something like this and the feeling goes away.

I got fed up with ebay (despite a few years of happy selling) when some twunt bought my L6 M13 then claimed it had a fault. I knew it was fine, would never sell anything faulty. I tried to fight the bullshit as much as I could. But ebay made me refund him, thankfully at least waiting until there was proof it was returned to me. And as I suspected, there was nothing at all wrong with the M13. I wouldn't have minded but it was clear I was being messed around.

He got in touch once at the start of all the trouble. Then when I tried to help and offer suggestions for what his issue might be he just launched a paypal claim without engaging in dialogue. I really wouldn't have minded if it had been genuine, but he was clearly messing me about. I'd even paid for the postage and so was down on the deal by quite a bit. And given I was selling the M13 because I was broke it was gutting. Having Paypal take money from my bank account until this was sorted was a massive pain. And the whole process dreadful as no one gave a shit about the seller.

It really got to me at the time. Silly I know. But I felt like I was being branded a liar by Ebay/Paypal. Yet I've always gone out of my way to help people - as my 100% ebay record attests.

I've got a few DSLR lenses to sell at the moment. But I can't bear to do it on ebay. So not sure what I'll do about that.

This is a new twist for me too, I've found it's way easier to sell locally on Kijiji(I know, ebay owns it), or any site that cuts out the paypal and shipping crap. I won't get into all the shipping problems I had, now I only look at ebay for info now and then.

    what does it mean?
the buyer pays an extra fee and gets a longer period to make a paypal money back claim?
this is for new items from business sellers?

I suspect if you buy the extended warranty, then issues will be dealt with by the insurer (who love paying out money).

I'm not sure I understand - how does this affect you?

It affects me because if I want to sell something on eBay, then I have no choice but to have a product which I consider a total rip off being offered on my listing.
