I beg to differ...my Jet City JCA50H is based on the Hot Rod 50+ (gain levels are apparently the same, but it's voiced slightly differently), and there's more gain on the normal channel than you get out of a lot of drive channels. I'd say there's certainly as much there as a JCM800.

Well I've never managed to try one of those Jet City models yet so couldn't comment on those. They do look exceptional value for money but, based on the Hot Rod 50 I own (which still has the normal and overdrive channels - just not footswitchable) and the other Hot Rod 50+/Avenger/Decatone/SLO/Marshall JCM models I've a/b'd against it I'll stand by my original comment.

Rod, on an alternative line.....if someone has offered this to you in trade against the Midtown for £700, please direct me to whoever will part with a Soldano for that amount and I'll have it if you don't want it.

The 'clean' channel is based on the slo circuit set in its crunch mode so wind up the preamp gain and it will do jcm800 gain levels no problems. Its more difficult to get a clean sound out of it to be honest.

ahh well if it's something else, an easier way to solve this is if you fancy a trip across the Severn Bridge and you can try my HR50 through your old Cornford 4x12, you can even bring the something else to compare against it.
