    There're four vintage versions of LPB;

    Inca silver basecoat w/blue topcoat & no clear (lightest)
    Inca silver basecoat w/blue topcoat & clearcoat (hint of green, usually the "classic" LPB colour)
    Shoreline gold basecoat w/blue topcoat & no clear (darker)
    Shoreline gold basecoat w/blue topcoat & clearcoat (yellows to OTM/sherwood levels of green)

    The newer ones are rarely done in that way though so often look a little lighter and less green.

    I think that's the same principle for Candy Apple Red too - few different basecoats top finishes can make them look very different as well.

    Tis indeed, and for essentially all of the 60's metallic colours. I can't remember specifically when the process changed, but I have a feeling it was no later than '71? I'll see if I can dig up the sources.

    I beg to differ. Apart from Candy Apple Red, all the others were contemporary car colours.
    I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

    That was my understanding - hence some were very short-lived.
