I am happy with cured. Cured tells me its ready for flating back and polishing. Dried only tells me i can touch it and maybe even pick it up and move it to somewhere out of my way

for the record i do do some spraying myself with MGT or R&F nitro in cans. I also do some with my cousin using his compressor when he has time - but I still need other sprayers occasionally so i can focus on building so some stuff gets sent out too

I obviously cant say for sure whether he did or not. I do know he does petty accurate colour matching himself when given an accurate sample to go by but this is one of these colours that can be completely accurate to one expert and totally wrong to another with just a slightly differing level of yellowing.

The good thing about MGT is that they are widely accepted as being accurate colour reproductions and i guess that is why Discostu wanted to supply them in the first place
I thought I covered this earlier?
I gave the body and the cans to the sprayer myself. I had started to spray the body but lost confidence so asked if he could do it for me instead. I drove down to his - a 330 mile round journey! - with the body, and at his request the MGT cans I had left. He wanted to ensure that if he needed more that the new paint would match, so I assume he ordered more from MGT but he may well have just used what I had supplied to colour match his own mix. I can't say for sure either way, but he wanted all my remaining paint so I think he used those.
To be fair, I asked him for help with a refin that I was asked to do rather than him getting the job from new, but I went to him because of his knowledge and expertise so didn't expect an uncured paintjob to be wrapped up in material and sent in a box!

makes me think it was about the time he did a 60 lp junior refin for me. no issues with it but he wanted to hand deliver it. maybe yours had made him nervous or of course he could have just wanted to meet me

was this the fabric yours came wrapped in? I know all mine have come wrapped in the stuff and i often save it for re-packaging - so far without issues

I suspect yours may be the issue a a few people have when keepign a new gibson in its case. they seem fine, but are actually just gassing enough that when packaged the trapped solvents can soften the lacquer slightly

That's the stuff! See the pattern of it - that had taken in to the finish on mine so it looked like it had been dabbed with bubble wrap when it was tacky!
He had a lap steel of yours in his workshop when I was there, I think it was black?

It was one of your deco lapsteels and I think it had your circular logo, so if those are the only options then it must be the red one. Oct '09.

I don't want this to become a thread slagging off the resprayer. He helped me out of a pickle and although there were problems the end result looked great.
The reason I brought this experience up was to show that nitro is not the be-all-and-end-all, and even in the right hands can go wrong and end up being soft.
