Default Might have a go on some Elixir Nanoweb phosphor bronzes, I reckon.

Worth a go? I can live with a brand new set not being quite as bright as a brand new set of uncoated ones, provided they can still keep a clear 'just played in' sound for a good length of time.

They are all I use on acoustic. Normal strings get me through one gig, maybe two. Elixir's go for around 7-10. Love em.

    Good strings them.

They do last forever it seems.

I'll have to be the one negative guy then.

They were the worst strings I tried on my Spruce/Rosewood Jumbo. Not exaggerating - I took them off after a few days of waiting for them to settle in and getting no joy. They just sounded thin and harsh compared to what other strings did on this guitar, and I've never had that issue otherwise with this instrument. Putting on a regular set of daddarios afterwards was like night and day for my tastes but of course YMMV.

Either I had a duff set or they just don't work for me. I had better luck tonally with the normal Polys, but they're even more obviously 'coated' and many don't like the feel.

Best option I've found is to just bulk buy cheaper strings, and wash your hands every time before you play to help them last longer. If you're at home you can always wash your hands again if you sweat after playing for a while. Cheaper and sounds better for my instruments to my ears, the only trade off is admin time restringing (which I do hate!).

Definitely give them a go once though. If they do work for you they'll save you time and money in the long run and many are very happy with them.

my stance(hate) on the polys is/was well documented, I only ever used non-coated DRs on all my acoustics, however since getting a new one that came with nanos 4 or 5 years ago, Im a convert.

As a non-gigger, the 'longevity' Vs newness trade off is perfectly acceptable, especially if like me you leave your acoustics "out to the elements" and not in their cases - and dont forget my tastes are on the 'upper' registers - so "brighter" tone is something I look for

HOWEVER - if you're a really heavy strummer, Id say possibly not - you can still get the "spiders webs" around the soundhole

    No, I'll join you.

I hate Elixirs, of all kinds. In fact I hate all coated strings I've ever tried. The only strings I can think of that I like less than Elixirs are the coated D'Addarios.

I would strongly suggest that if you haven't used coated strings before, that you order only one set until you've found out which side of the Marmite test you're on.

I'm ambivalent on them. For lower-end to midrange acoustics, I think they can be pretty good as they can add a certain amount of sparkle to the sound of an otherwise slightly muddy sounding instrument.

I don't use them on my Lowden though, I prefer Wyres or Newtones. Elixirs tend to lack warmth and can make the trebles sound a bit crunchy.

    .
no sorry I cant agree with that -

in that, a set of brand new un-coateds (any brand pretty much) is going to add far more sparkle than a set of nanos, and I dont thing the "range" level makes any difference what so ever.

Your playing style however - might

Unless you prefer the sound of played in (or dead as I call em ) strings - tho I couldnt imagine why...........unless you're a jazzer of course

I definitely prefer played-in - *not* dead - strings, but I don't think coated strings sound right at all even compared to brand new uncoated ones - thin and tinny rather than bright and zingy. Apart from the D'Addario ones which *do* sound dead!

They also feel horrible, like they're greasy or sweaty.
