    Default Simple pedalboard for metal?

    With my liking for stuff like Lenny Kravitz, Black Crowes, Stevie Salas, New York Dolls and other somewhat retro and funky stuff, I've got a board geared towards that:

    Pitchblack ->Vox V847 ->Fulldrive II -> MXR '78 -> Voodoo Labs Trem -> MXR Carbon Copy -> Guyatone MD3

    But, I've also got a fondness for metal in the style of Evanescence, Lucana Coil, Nightwish et al so was thinking a separate, simple board for that would be the way to go. Not being a metal head, would this do the trick?

    Tuner -> Whammy V -> Digitech Hardwire Metal Distortion -> Chorus

    I'd be looking to use this plugged into clean amps

    Any advice much appreciated

    Yeah a Hardwire Metal Distortion will do the trick!!! I've got one and it does what it says on the tin...and very well. The X Series Metal Master I have also...but that lacks a gain control and I found that hard to control at band volumes. But it sounds every bit as good (i can't make up my mind which I like best)...if you can control the beast. At least the newerer hardwire one has the all important gain control.

    So short answer yes...but don't expect it to turn your gorrila practice amp into a Dual Rectumfrier or sumink.

    Another nice high gain pedal is the Riot (or Joyo US Dream). Does some very good squeely loud into a quiet amp.

    I've tried the Joyo (in pref to a Riot from sound clips) and it didn't really do it for me tbh. But then, I wasn't thinking about it from this perspective.

    It's not really "metal" more kind of shreddy high gain.
    What amp will it be going into?

    I'd probably skip the chorus and whammy, and replace them with a post-distortion solo boost and a delay.

    Pretty much whatever is available which is why I'd probably go for a Blackstar HT-Metal if I could find a board it would fit in. I want to be able to dial it whatever the circumstance.

    I'm not in a position to recommend a shred pedal ('cos I'm still using the heavily doctored Danelectro Fabtone I've had for years and haven't auditioned any replacements for it), but the setup I use when I'm not using my Line6 Pod malarkey is Fabtone distortion -> Boss GE7 equaliser -> delay (for lead). The GE7 is off for lead and on for rhythm, so it provides a bit of mid scoop and volume drop when engaged. It also means that lead tone isn't all fizzy and gutless (as it would be if it was just rhythm tone + volume + delay).

    If you've got some moolah to spend the SLOStortion on the classifieds would probably do the job.

    I can definitely see the logic there, but the chorus and whammy are for some specific things I like to do, and tbh I'm not a big fan of delay although wouldn't discount it in the future.
