Yeah, I was basing the delay on the fact that a lot of those types of band seem to like using swirly delay and reverb in clean bits; a good delay would get most of the way there whereas reverb is just the fairy dust on top.

Of course...get yourself a TC Flashback, and you can load a TonePrint into it which turns it into a tri-chorus which would solve both problems and only take up one space. It also has a modulated delay mode built in, which gives you the delay + chorus combination.

Aha, never thought of that, brilliant!

EDIT: And just thought, an x4, even better!

Yes - I grinned lots when I found that TonePrint.

I would've suggested the X4, but it kinda takes your pedalboard from "simple" to "quite complicated" in terms of usage

Well, removing a chorus pedal and replacing with a versatile delay is a trade off I can live with

The Hardwire will definitely do the trick, best metal distortion out there IMO. For any money.

I've also got a Joyo Vintage Overdrive (with the gain turned right down) that I kick in for lead guitar, gives me slightly more gain and midrange. Sounds great.
My name is Connor and I have a GAS problem.

I also have some videos of myself playing guitar. Here they are.

I'm going to keep away from boosts at the moment as it would over complicate what I want. TBH I've not gotten any satisfaction from metal lead playing for several years so it would be a little 'pre-redundant'. Certainly wouldn't discount it though and I'm quite a fan of the Bad Monkey for this.

The Bad Monkey has another use in a board like this - it's got a cab-emulated output, which is a godsend if your amp dies. Put it last in the chain, and you're golden.

Tuner -> Whammy V -> Digitech Hardwire Metal Distortion -> Chorus

I'd be looking to use this plugged into clean amps

    Any advice much appreciated
For that sort of metal I would say -

Tuner - Suhr Riot (all day long I've recently done a evanescence cover using a suhr riot direct - not even through an amp and it sounds pretty close to be , check it out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_CJTROHZ9U ) I would then say some sort of verb/delay to the ambient clean parts, chorus in my opinion is too 90s ...

Consider adding a noise gate on the end of the chain -- I never bothered with one until I had to do that very tight metal chugging stop/ start playing and the gate tightens the live sound up massively. Still gotta play it tight but the stops become absolute, with no furry edges.

I use the tri-chorus on my X4 ( although its not exactly a Metal band!). IMHO its a bit, err, understated to what you can achieve with a decent stand alone chorus and it is a pretty large pedal. Flashback is a lot smaller but you would need to do some mid set knob twiddling to get different sounds out of it, so depends how much that bothers you. I'm trying to use the X4 as 3 presets plus 1 toneprint I can get with just one quick twiddle.

Having said that it won't be long until you can create your own toneprints ( although still limited to pedal type).

I guess another option may be a multi FX - some decent buys to be had second hand. They aren't tiny but if they cover tuner, delays and mods then that shouldn't be a problem. The drives on the Line 6 M9 I had were much more metal oriented than they were of the crunchy/bluesy type I wanted. Don't know if any of them will do the whammy type stuff though.
