Ah the Mike Campbell. Very cool. Theres one on ebay that I nearly bidded on at £1400, but they are only £1600 new. Still a lot for a Korean guitar though

I thought all Duesenbergs are built in Germany, like others they source various components such as switches and pots from all over the world (which they've listed on their website), but they're all constructed in Hannover AFAIK. Anyway, if these things are built well enough for the likes of Mike Campbell, Ronnie Wood, Dave Stewart, Bob Dylan etc etc then it should be fine for my noodlings!

I'm loving that hot rod fifties race car vibe....

That's what they'd like you to think. But it is not the case.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Definitely going for an AC Cobra vibe.

Why should Korea be cheap to manufacture. It is an advanced country with the sort of infrastructure that would put the UK to shame. Average wages are about 5X China's. The label Korean is no longer indicative of low quality.

Plenty of bargains to be had.

I agree. They make some pretty good cars now too.

So why do Duesenberg deceive by omission?

I was bidding on a starplayer last week, that are about £1200 new. They rarely come up used so I hoped for a bargain, but it went for £790, so they do hold good money.

I have no problem with Korea, I just wonder why The do hide the fact they are built there and 'finished' in Germany. Lat Marshalls 'Proudly made in GB' when Id guess less than 5% of their output is built here. Blackstar are the same

For me it's not that a thing is made in Korea that's a problem ... it's the lengths some perfectly respectable Far Eastern manufacturers seem to go to to disguise where their products are made. Though having something built in Korea is still cheaper than in the US, or Germany, or the UK for that matter even though wages are higher than China ... and here perhaps is the problem. It's not that we see Far eastern products as inferior ... it's that either they or their distributors do ... and go to such daft hoops to make us think their products are from elsewhere. Naturally that doesn't do confidence in a product much good!
I think those Duesenbergs look brilliant ... I like Blackstar amps, etc etc but come on ... it's like Larger brewed in Leeds somehow needing an oompa, eidelwiess and cuckoo clock image to sell ... if it's good it doesn't have to pretend!

They should be more upfront if they are built in Korea before being finished in Germany, but I can understand why as they would then have to battle against misguided preconceptions, outdated reputations, gearhead snobbery etc

The fact remains, some big players are using these guitars and all the reviews I've read have been positive about them so they must be decent bits of kit. I guess the actual birthplace is not relevant. GAS is growing....
