IMO the main advantage of UNIX is its shell. Next to writing your own tools in C it's the most powerful thing I've ever come across. Windows has nothing like it.

Powershell is pretty interesting, its kinda a shame it never really took off.

Windows is NO competition for UNIX. The difference is you can do useful work with UNIX.

I've never heard of it. I guess that's an indicator of how much it never took off. Wouldn't change my opinion of Windoze though. Overweight slow unstable and unreliable ...
