    Unhappy AAaaaaarghhh!

Was going to take my Peerless Gigmaster (ES295-a-like in Scotty Moore gold with a Bigsby) to this evenings jam night. Plugged a lead in for a quick blast and the jack socket came loose and disapeared inside which is something of a PITA on an archtop. Telecaster it is then...

Oooooo that's an ar5e! I used to have a Hofner President that used to happen on fairly regularly ... I made a little hook for rescuing the lead and socket. If you can get it through the jack 'orifice' by torch through f hole ... you can pull the little begger through ... then feed the nut and washer over the hook shaft. Fiddly but doable!

Yeah, done that before with a 335-a-like but it needs a calmer head and more time than I have this evening :-)

    Yay! Go Me..!

I couldn't hook the socket out directly through the jack socket but I did manage to fish it out through the lower f-hole by snagging the wires with a hook improvised from a paperclip. I then fed a loop of cotton through the jack socket, snagged that through the F-hole, fed it through the jack socket, hooked it over the contacts so that I could use it to pull the socket back into place from the outside, threaded the washer and retaining nut over the free end of my loop of cotton and held the socket in place by tension while I got the nut started on it's threads. Snap the cotton with a quick tug, hold the jack socket in place with a small set of needle nodes pliers pushed outwards against the bore of the jack socket (IYSWIM) and I could tighten the nut firmly enough that hopefully it won't happen again.

    I are an engineer! :-)

Superglue the nut on and then it actually won't happen again.

Or even clear nail varnish. It'll hold it tight enough not to loosen, but is easy to break off it you ever need to replace the socket.

If that breaks off as easily as nail varnish, then I bow to your superior knowledge...

not as easily as nail varnish, but superglue does have very low shear strength and a small dab on the threads will easily break if needed, just like a superglued nut will easily come loose with a tap if needed.

so no, it does not come off as easily, but it comes off easily enough.... and it will do a better job in the meantime. nail varnish will shrink and crack over time, superglue wont

Loctite - ever wonder where they got the name???

Well, you learn something new every day.
I'd have assumed that superglue would stick the thing solid for eternity.
Just goes to show what I know.
...can you get it in Kensington Rose Pink?
