Zen for light drive & Rat 2 for heavier stuff - both through a clean 6L6 amp. The filter control on the rat makes it so versatile..

I just fell in love with the Suhr Riot.

    damn it's good.
The Reverend Lord Henry was not one of those new-fangled parsons who carry the principles of their vocation uncomfortably into private life.

Another take on this now I've thought some more: in the running I'd put the Xotic BB Preamp, because it can do many things all really well: it'll do slightly compressed, sustaining instant lead sound, but will also do chips n' gravy overdrive that responds to the guitar and has a very usable dual band EQ (moreso again if you go for the custom shop MB model as I have with additional mid control) . So for covering boost -> overdrive -> distortion and doing all well I'd suggest checking it out.
    Red ones are better.

The MXR Micro Amp deserves a mention too, I think. A while back I did a comparison of a few overdrives into a mildly overdriven valve amp and the MXR was my fave. So simple too.

I don't think I could narrow it down to just the one, but if I had to pick one of each type in a hurry...

    OD: Marshall Guv'nor MK1
Distortion: Big Muff (an IC version specifically!)
    Fuzz: SuperFuzz

Currently though I prefer my Blue Box/Blue Tube combo. Covers all my needs pretty well!

Having built all the top boutique offerings my top 3 are:
Clean boost-Klon centaur (by a mile)
    Rock-Plexitone
    Boost-boiling point.

I've tried them all and these three remain!
But each to their own. Depends on the amp you're going into as well. Mine is a blues junior with a texas heat speaker.

Russian big muff (North effects clone in this case) stacked with both sides of an Analogman King of Tone maxed. Nearly took my head off when I discovered it yesterday. Amazing tone.

Boss SD1, genuinely love these, have it on all the time & a RAT for worse dirt. A RAT is also surprisingly "nice" with a Rickenbacker if you have it on low distortion & the filter bright.
Silence isn't a skip, you don't have to fill it with rubbish. (Though that never seems to stop me.)

The Marshall Jackhammer is a great pedal.

The problem with it is that most people don't know how to use the second mode properly due to the EQ controls being complicated. One control is the frequency being shifted, the other control is how much it is boosted. If you just leave the second one at zero the control has no effect and you can just use the bass/treble controls instead.

For a long while I've been very happy with a BB Preamp for all things OD. Kicked in with an RC Booster it delivers a really great, smooth, mid-rangy lead sound. I'll no doubt try many more in the future, but can see myself keeping this duo close by just in case.
