The Riot is a superbly built pedal (and the totally pop free relay controlled true bypass switching is brilliant) and I will be keeping it, but is it worth £120 more than the Marshall?

    Nope.
I have heard that the Riot is based on the Shredmaster which I assume the Jackhammer is also based on.

The Fairfield Barbershop OD gets rave reviews everywhere it is reviewed, i've been through pretty much all of the "top" names in overdrive and this is still on my board... great pedal, doesn't try to give an amp a new sound or anything (like a lot of other high end pedals do), just makes it all sound "better".

Still undecided on the Analogman Prince of Tone, which is another drive currently on my board. Always underwhelmed by the Tim and Timmy pedals, same with the Zendrive, they are really nice sounding, just a bit underwhelming. I like the Klon KTR which I use occasionally. I want to try the Vemuram, that's high on the list for ones to try soon

Well, I've got both now so I will look forward to A/B-ing them.

I picked up an absolutely mint, boxed, riot for 109 which looking at the quality of it really doesn't feel excessive. In contrast, I plugged the Jackhammer in the other day and I was getting a funny crackling noise behind the notes...so I guess you get what you pay for in terms of durability etc. Maybe it was just a dodgy cable or something though...those Marshall pedals seem pretty well made and I've not had any problems with them previously.

My Jackhammer is probably 15 years old - and no crackles yet!

I bought mine used and the box looked like it had been throught the digestive system of a yak. I don't think it has been well cared for

I've been through many drive pedals, but the OCD is still the best sounding medium gain box I've heard. I just love it. There are others I love too, but the OCD is my main box. Worthwhile mentions are the Keeley BD2 and the TC Dark Matter.

I had a bit of a test of different drive pedals into my Orange TH-30 the other day - Suhr Riot, Jackhammer, Danno TODv1, You Dirty RAT. So, yes they are all kind of different things (apart from the Jackhammer and the Riot I guess) but it was still kind of interesting.

The end result was that I took the RAT off my board and replaced it with the Danno. For me, I get a tone out of my amp that I prefer to any pedal I have tried with that amp so far. That said, all of those pedals sounded good. They all did decent low-gain 'slight dirtying of the clean channel'. But the Danno was just much more transparent than the other, I guess not surprisingly. The Danno doesn't really have the gain to compete with the others once you get into higher gain tones.

The RAT is a law unto itself. It's a cool thing and I'd probably leave it on my board if I had space for 'other distortion' duties. It's just nasty and in your face. In a good way.

Between the Riot and the Jackhammer, I can see that they are similar but the Riot is definitely better sounding. Just fuller and more natural. The Jackhammer has this kind of processed-sounding fizziness to that I struggled to dial out. When you A/B them there's not really a doubt over which is the better pedal, at least for me. Mind you, in a band mix either would sound good for higher gain stuff and you can pick up the Jackhammer for peanuts.

Going back and forth between the amp and the riot - the riot sounded different, so if I had the space it would be cool to have on there. With the TH-30 though, it has so much gain on tap you don't really need something like the riot. The Danno serves well as a slight dirt to the clean channel pedal and an overdrive to the the dirty channel.

If I had a clean amp and was getting dirt purely from pedals...I'd have them all! Well, probably not the Jackhammer.

Going by most of the Youtube clips I didnt rate the jackhammer much , Its definitely good value for money but there are way better pedals out there for similar amounts of gain . Pretty impressed by the marshall governor 2 tho ,obviously sounds completely different as you would expect .
