Yeah, saw this at the weekend. Very interesting but perhaps overly nostalgic.
I had no idea about the oil crisis having such an effect though!

I watched it .. typically nostalgic. The oil price didn't affect sales too much in the UK as we had inflation so wages rose pretty quickly as well. I also noticed they didn't mention one of the biggest impacts of the 70s and 80s - the rise of the independent record label. I worked in London in the 70s and the small labels like Rough Trade, Stiff Records, Factory and Mute gave the majors a hard time and developed some major acts. They were very astute at getting their product into the small independent 'AOR free' record store.

I saw it. Also saw two of the Danny Baker programmes on albums but they were quite annoying ( any programme making me feel sorry for Jeremy Clarkson because he couldn't get a word in has got to be bad).

I watched it; it was OK, but my impression was that it was really a Radio programme being done on TV.

You wouldn't have liked the Danny Baker ones then , they were exactly that; just talking heads.

Will I be made to feel like a freak if I watch it because I like Albums still?

Large parts of the Danny Baker programmes were opinion dressed as fact and more annoyingly people talking over one another without much listening to each another's comments. However, it was refreshing to hear folks standing up for things like Prog rock and other untrendy music without a hint of irony and being passionate about the whole listening experience of an LP record.

It's odd that some artists have really defended the album concept, such as AC/DCwhere there really is no album theme.
Where as the prog artists such as Yes/genesis/pink floyed have been fine with releasing individual tracks on iTunes.

It was a Danny Baker one I'm referring to.
