yeah the vcs are much more british-sounding than the blues junior, which is fendery despite the el84s.

These are available at the minute after a very brief look on fleabay.

Paul Gilbert used to use a GH50, GH100 and VC50 combo (like this one). Nuff said.

And this is the LC30. And as you can see, used, it's a very affordable amp. The Blues Jnr is a great sounding amp, and does sound more Fender, but it's a lot of money for what it is really.

Yeah, looking at it, I could probably get one of those Belcats AND a Laney of some sort for not much more than a Blues Junior.

Laneys all have a very characteristic bold mid frequency, where as the Fenders clean sound is very low mid. I always think of the Laney voicing as more Orange without the mid fuzzy-ness rather than Marshall, Vox or Fender.

The VC's are a great range of amps, i'd urge you to try the Lionheart range too, stupidly good amps.

    +1

assuming the vc50 is the combo version of the vh100r (i've only tried the vh100r) it'll be a nice amp. EDIT: it'll get an awful lot heavier than a BJ, though. LOL.

    i've had a vc30/ac15/blues junior

the vc series is much like the vox sound, great value. only point would be that the reverb on vc isn't amazing (well it's very subtle..)

i'm sticking with my modded blues junior for my small-clean-combo-home-use amp, it seems to suit me better, that said - the vc series are really nice and definitely worth a look!

I've had a couple of VC30's and a VC15. For gigging definitely go for the VC30 if you need any kind of headroom. I much prefer the VC30 to the BJ although the Blues Juniors do benefit from speaker upgrades, the one I tried had the special design speaker.

Thanks for the further comments. I'm hoping to get to demo the Laneys this week with luck so we'll see.
