Back in the late 70s I was standing on the corner of a street in London [just off Oxford Sreet] when a car sped through a red light and mowed down a female pedestrian. She was thrown about six feet in the air and landed on her back. The driver stopped and got out of the car the check on her - she stood up, shouted at him in French [her native language] and then hit him so hard he was knocked out. Luckily she was just bruised and the police turned up and arrested the driver for jumping a red light.

Modern cars are designed to have better protection for pedestrians - thank goodness nobody was badly hurt. The driver should be given a life ban for driving dangerously and failing to stop [I'll bet he/she was over the drink drive limit].
