    Default Free-divers

What the fuck is wrong with you ? Humans breath AIR. What the hell are you doing 300ft+ underwater without any ?

Trying to break records when the only way you know you've overdone it is when you can't make it back to the surface without inhaling water, followed by death ?

Bring me a free-diver. I want to slap one. As Bones said in Star Trek V - "Playing games with life".

edit: forgot the 'that is all'.

    That is all.

I think they're pretty amazing peeps... amazing endurance atheletes...

Not all are out to break records over and over they just want to be free to enjoy snorkling/diving stuff without the extra gear...

Freaks I tells ya. Freaks. Playing Russian Roulette with the most precious thing we have. I don't mean people who like to dive to a sensible depth for pleasure - I'm talking about the freaks who try for the maximum depth they can.

I had a 'free diving' panic moment in my youth and that probably has something to do with it - our local leisure centre had just opened a diving pool and it had windows at the bottom where the public could look in. I decided to try to make it down to the windows - which I successfully did, but on the way back up discovered that the surface, despite looking like it was within arms reach, seemed to never arrive, and my lungs were bursting - I had to breathe out on the way up as I couldn't hold my breath any longer and the urge to take another breath after exhaling in desperation is virtually impossible to control. I still remember the panic as I was frantically trying to reach the surface. Obviously I made it.... but that experience left an indelible mark on me.

That's not why I posted mind.... I was just surfing youtube and happened to come across a free-diving video.

    Anyway.... FREAKS !

There are some instances where the free-diving skill is not only necessary, but vital for survival. I had one such moment in the khazi this morning.

I interviewed Tanya Streeter a couple of times. Amazing woman. She encouraged me to snorkel more and scuba less. I got a lot more pleasure from my diving after that.
