    Default Tax '#[]-=!

That silly old moo Margaret Hodge is getting on my tits just lately.

I take the view that the tax system is official extortion which has gone way beyond any efficient level and which no-one can any longer understand. Moreover there are so many ticks sucking the blood out of the public sector that it is a moral imperative to pay as little tax as possible in the hope of constraining the bloated politicians who are constantly ripping everyone off to fill their own pockets and bribe their own voters. Anyone know any recent Chancellors, Prime Ministers, Treasury secretaries or mandarins who actually have any financial knowledge, qualifications or experience ? No ? What about in local authorities then ? Ohwhatagiveaway...

Ever noticed how much opposition berates new taxes but then doesn't seem to repeal them when voted in on the strength of that?

Wasn't Income tax invented to pay for the Crimea War? That war ended a long time ago, but natch the tax never got repealed.

Everyone, everywhere has always paid taxes of some form or another. Without them we have no state and we're back to hunter gathering.

You leave the impression that it would not be an improvement.

I think he was actually polarising the whole debate. 'Everyone', 'everywhere', 'always' - clearly not true and clearly an invitation to disagree with him - still don't know what his real agenda is though

Think I'll talk to other people instead.

    Agenda? LOL.

*Every* society has taxes of some form, by that name or another.

tax is a form of redistribution, hunter gatherers engage in redistribution, so I guess you could say that even Stig pays tax.
None of you seem to understand; I'm not locked in here with you, you'll all locked in here with me.

The question perhaps is not just who pays, but who benefits, and how much is too much ? It is one thing to have your rubbish picked up, your potholes filled (!) and fires put out; another to make sure criminals are caught and punished (!!); yet another to look after your ill and aged; quite another to line politicians' expense accounts, increase council tax to pay unfunded public sector pensions and charge 20% extra on a bar of soap because bankers are greedy...

End of however, we get the government we deserve. Few people take any interest in how their tax is being spent, fewer still understand money. Gove should put that in his f*****g curriculum. Just imagine the politics around that...

Islington council houses two scumbags next door to me. Their maisonette is worth over £700,000 acording to a recent sale on the street. Neither work and the police are weekly visitors. That is why we pay such high taxes.

The economis Laffer's work on tax and revenue showed that any rate much above 20% actually reduced revenues as it increased avoidance and stopped marginal economic activity.
