Default MXR Custom Bad Ass goodness

So I read somewhere that the two Custom Bad Ass pedals (Modified OD and '78 Distortion) were designed to be stacked. Today, having nothing better to do, I gave it a whirl.

Ding Ding Ding- we have a winner!

I love both pedals, esp the OD, but together they just sound killer! I ran them through the Bassman Drive setting on my Musty 3, using my Strat. The distortion sounded fantastic. The combo gave me just what I was looking for- crunchy, growly, and fat as hell. And, it wasn't all whiny and buzzsawish, like a lot of distortions can be. I'd meant to try it through a clean setting ( this one is pushed right to the edge of breakup) as well, but I was just having too much fun with this one... Then I had the bright idea to engage the Gate/Pan mode of my Boss Flanger... ( I can only imagine what my neighbors must have thought, hearing me chuckling evilly whilst playing with this wonderful noise) Oh well, maybe tomorrow.

The one negative was noise- together, these pedals hum like crazy with the gains rolled up... I knew there was a reason I bought that Boss Noise Suppressor.

This still won't stop me from plotting to buy ever more drives and distortions... ( next up Way Huge Swollen Pickle, and Pork Loin; Full Drive II mosfet; and...)

i doubt it, since as far as i'm aware the 78 is a modded ds1 and the OD is a modded sd1 or tubescreamer...

that doesn't mean they won't sound good together (or alone), of course. But "hmm coincidentally these two pedals sound good stacked" is often turned by marketing into "these pedals were designed to be stacked- UNLIKE ANY OTHER PEDAL!".

    Nice scores

sort of says it on the MXR website under the Modified OD ' Put it in front of the '78 Custom Badass Distortion for a slew of amp-like gain structures that won't mask your tone.'

There's an interview out there somewhere, with the main guy behind the Badass range (same guy behind Way Huge) where this is explicitly stated. Can't for the life of me remember where I saw it though.
