Default Can ebay vendors refuse to refund the original postage paid (not the return postage)?

I know, I know. Billions of vitriolic threads on this, but when it happens it is infuriating...

I buy a (admittedly small and cheap) plastic thing from the thieving gits effectspowersupplies. When it arrives it doesn't work with my kit, so I ask to return. They grudgingly accept (claiming that no-one has ever returned one before). Today I find they have refunded the purchase price but not the £1.99 postage (it cost me just 70p to send it back to them, BTW).

Completely not about the money (obviously), it's the principal.

I understand that the customer may be liable for the the return postage, but surely not the original? There again, what do I know?

Well what I do know is that I will not be buying anything from effectspowersupplies (stompbox ltd) again.

Open a Paypal dispute and force a chargeback for the outstanding amount.

Some dick tried to do that to me a few years ago as well. I got my money back.

Yep - cheers John. I've opened a line of communication with the vendor, who immediately declined the request to be refunded in full. I will escalate.

The DSRs require them to refund the original postage cost - their refusal is illegal. Get Trading Standards onto it. If they want to trade on line then they need to do it legally.

Thanks Sporky, that's what I thought. I'm sure that you have posted this very same message many times over...

I think I may well have done.

Still, plenty of companies who think they can choose which laws apply to them and which don't.

This kind of shit really boils my piss. If only there was a thread where I could vent my spleen on this matter. Keep us up to date on the situation will you... I want to see the email where they apologise and refund the full amount. Bloody scumbags.

Deep breaths Emp - remember the blood pressure . Actually I had to take a serious pause earlier on today and remember my cardiologists advice (chill the f*ck out*). But despite it being a tiny, weeny little purchase, it really winds me up. They will refund the paltry amount, I'm sure, but they will not apologise.

When it's all done and you've got your money back, make sure you leave them negative feedback saying something like "does not understand the law regarding postage refunds" as well. More likely to make other buyers realise they can do the same.
