I refer to my thread re: Utopia (the C4 program)

I really cant see how seeing the planet in its entirety from "up there" is going to have the same affect on many people. The same way as seeing pictures of poor/starving/homeless/war torn people when bankers get big bonuses or david cameron slashes some spending gets the grauniad readers up in arms should anyone dare say anything remotely "daily mail" - but they're still happy play their £1000 guitars, live in their own homes, and eat their KFC on a Saturday......

There are three photographs that stick in my mind:
    1. Dougal Haston on the summit of Everest - everything else on earth is below him
    2. Carl Sagan's dot - the earth and everything on it is reduced to one pixel
    3. The picture shown here, Apollo 8's Earthrise, Joni Mitchell's "marble bowling ball"

yeah - i already know the world is big against a person and small against a galaxy - even if it gets pictured it doesnt really make much difference - it doesnt really "leave me cold" but imagining it doesnt seem to change me particularly - either my imagination is too lame to pick up what is being explained or its so awesome that i get it already and im like "yeah? and?"

imagining and explaining infinity or the lack thereof is much more exciting for me
