    Predictable as ever James!

He is of course not wrong but the OP might not want to go that route for various reasons.

The specification looks great and Toshies are I think one of the better brands for audio but I strongly suggest the question is posed at www.soundonsound.com where there is a vast pool of music computing talent of the highest order, mac and PC both.

    The spec looks fine.

The only thing I would check (and I don't know) is what the support for Windows 8 is like with the drivers and software you want to use.

W8 is said to be very good for music (SoS again) if you disable the daft GUI!

Personally I wouldn't go for Windows 8 simply because I like well-bedded in operating systems so audio manufacturers have got stable drivers out. Some still don't bother with decent ones for Windows 7 (see the many complaints about Mackie for being shite at driver updates).

I treated myself to a new laptop the other week to replace my 6 year old number...

Very happy with it. Trackpad isn't the best but I'm a mouse user until I die.

Whatever people will say, a Mac is far from essential. The basic Macbook Pro was inferior in spec to mine and £400 more. That £400 saved will for a decent interface (Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 in my case), a mic, and software (Reaper, Audiomulch, some of the Valhalla reverb plug-ins). I'm not anti-Mac and I went through my usual comparison test and played around in the local Apple store and couldn't find any reason for me to get to Apple.

What are the Toshies like now in terms of noise? I tried using a Toshie 7 years ago living overseas and the CPU fan was absolutely godawful. The Asus I now have is very quiet indeed.

+1 for the Mac. Bought mine a year ago and it's just better.

Not if he want's to use firewire or possibly thunderbolt.

It's a minefield for firewire on the PC side, only certain hardware will work any specific laptop.
The specially made DAW/Video laptops are more expensive than the Macs.

There are plenty people running Windows on Mac Book Pros, just for Firewire800.
They just don't frequent this forum.

Yes it looks like a good spec, it would be a great spec if the i7 is a quad core.
Pair it with a good USB2 audio interface, and you're good to go.

Thank you very much, everyone, for all your kind answers. Unfortunately, I don’t know if the processor is quad core. Its specifications only say Core i7 3630 QM 2.40ghz 5 GT/S CACHE 6mb Intel chipset
