    A minute

Sorry, I'm a bit anal with details

I would be happy to properly add 40 in 5 weeks.

Don't think speed is the be all and end all though, 140bpm will put u in the right sorta area to be able to play most 'rock' out there. Why don't you work on some solos you like as well as your scales? Most oasis type of music has pretty simple solos with some 16th note runs at around 120-140 bpm

Yep, I could definitely do the intermediate parts of that and maybe the odd quick part. I can tell which are the proper quick bits, that's the technique right there. I've seen this guy before somewhere, he is very good.

    Cheers.

At that rate of 160 a week you will be giving Yngwie a run for his money .

I think the numbers I threw out are a bit vague when it comes to learning solos. I'm not that worried about my solo ability too much. I have learned and tabbed a shed load and memorised plenty too. I can do accurate versions of most Queen, Pink Floyd, AC/DC. Some Led Zepp,Aerosmith, Journey,Robert Cray, Richard Marx songs, Stray cats etc. I've done some obscure ones too. I do like Oasis and wouldn't have any bother with those.

I'm just below par at prolonged, controlled speed.

I suppose we'll just have to keep at it

160 notes in a month mate, not a week!

if you can play songs you like then why worry about being faster?

It's because there are some solos that I would like to play that I can't. It's usually the little bits that you cannot quite manage that bug you. Example is the fast bit at the end of My Sharona solo but a few other solos too. Plus I would like to include some slightly faster bits in my improvs.

    Cheers

A simple suggestion but have you tried using something like Band in a Box? That would make your practice more interesting. Also, how about seven note scales?

I usually just use YT backing tracks, but that BIAB looks ok. Seems you can make your own chord progs up.

    Cheers Stu.
