indeed, but I think Im better placed to know what my ears are like than you, but thank you anyway

For me enjoying music is about getting the energy of what somebody's put into it, not how it was recorded or what its played back on.

If you feel you cant enjoy music without spending £k's and £k's on gear thats fine, Im really happy that I can

This! Listening to pristine, high quality audio is nice but it's not why I listen to music.

I think that if you listen on less than high quality audio you're not hearing all the music, and/or you're hearing the music plus other crap.

However, I agree that only Bertie can be the arbiter of his own ears.

It's odd, I know music teachers who can tell the difference between good and bad tone production on a musical instrument when a pupil plays it but who don't mind listening to low bitrate MP3s or crappy old cassette players. Doesn't make sense to me, even if it makes sense to everyone else!

if you actively "sit down to listen" Id have to agree, but I dont - Im always doing something else when listening to music, hearing music is a stimulant to doing something else more important. Not the end objective in itself. I really dont take music that seriously, cos it the scope of things, it isnt.

thats just the way I roll baby

Because most people are more visually than aurally sensitive. And SD telly is roughly the equivalent of listening to everything through a telephone line, in terms of how much of our senses it fills with information.
