    Default Mark King

    Any fans on this forum?

Level 42 were my first ever "favourite band" as a kid. It was before I played bass so while I knew Mark King was good, I didn't know he was THAT good.

I find his style to be totally unique. Usually slap bass bores me after a very short while because to me, it looks more better than it sounds. But with Mark King, much of what he does is not flash for flash sake; it totally supports the song.

The way he plays tricky basslines, sings AND chews gum simultaneously blows my mind too!

I can play a couple of his early songs but on the whole Level 42's music bores me to tears. As a bass player though he is worthy of any player's admiration.

I liked him in the French and Saunders "Ralph McTell Trail" sketch.

Level 42 were great with Alan Murphy, it still is great dance music.

Not for about 10 years. His huge early sound has given way to clicky bass-lite nonsense.

He's a caricature of himself these days.

Mark King still has a massive following amongst teachers to this very day, they listen to him for hours.

    Ha - yes!

Mrs Z has met him. He is, erm, a little conceited, shall we say?

Very little love for Mr King on this site!

His basslines on Hot Water and The Chinese Way are epic!

I like his playing now and I always have. If he's a bit conceited it doesn't bother me as long as he can do the business. I don't think I've ever heard of him having a Blackmore style temperamentality.
