Yes, the hiss isn't a huge problem, you notice when using the wah as it it makes the hiss "wah"! Volume pot is only an issue when trying to play really quiet - which will be never - you know me !!!

It's hard to explain - but you know your matamps and you may know what I mean when I say "nowhere to hide"!!!

Very cool Jon. I think Ryan (Fastboy) had a Puretone head for about three or maybe four nano seconds (ie double the normal amount of time he spends with any amp ). It was in and out so quick I didn;t get a chance to see/hear it.

Man this thing is awesome - really opened the taps on it today - the "growl" knob is a revelation. All the way off the amp is as clean as you like, turn it round a smidge an it introduces a touch of break up by gradually dialling out the 3 band EQ. Ive no idea how this works

Turn it all the way round and plugged in my Burny and it just roars - I have never heard a 1x12 make a noise like it. It's like thunder.

The tone stack has a huge insertion loss on most amps - as much as 20dB, which is one-hundredth of the power out relative to power in - so removing the tone stack lets a *lot* more signal through and will overdrive the next stage much more easily. It's easy to do - simply putting a variable resistance (ie pot) between the ground end of the tone stack and the actual ground will let you dial it out progressively. Some amps, like Mesas, do the same sort of thing to some extent by using an over-large value mid control, which is the one at the ground end. (Not the bass, as you might expect!)

Aaaah I see! . Only issue is the increase in hiss - any ideas why that might be?

Due to the massive increase in signal level . The tone stack attenuates the hiss as well as the signal.

But, that indicates the hiss is coming from before the tone stack, so it might be worth swapping out V1 or V2 and see if it's a noisy valve.

I'm very keen to see where this goes, as I sense a genuine excitement with this amp from Jon

It's true I am very excited Matt! I can't wait to try it out with the band as that's where it will stand or fall. The drive though - phwooar !! I just hope I can get it at normal volume
