    Sorry, resurrecting this a bit...

I'm currently ordering the parts, and am not sure of the best wire to use to connect the jack sockets to the L-pad terminals.

I have some spare hook-up cable laying around after my amp build, would that do? Or do I need some sort of speaker cable?

I went into Wilkinsons and got some very thick, heavy duty copper cable. Technically, it was a 3 core cable with 2 cores insulated and 1 core plain copper. I used the 2 insulated ones.

I doubt you need such heavy duty wire though. I've actually used a bit of the same super heavy wire in my wiring loom! After studying quantum physics for a few years, I don't believe thicker wire is BAD. Wire that's too thin can be.

That 3A hook up cable is probably fine, but something a bit heavier would probably be good, I would just use a bit of mains cable off an old kettle lead.

At the power levels you're using, the 3A hook-up wire is plenty - you'd need to put a continuous 72W into the L-Pad at 8 ohms to reach 3A, and the L-Pad would probably burn out first.

paultheoneyoulove is right though, heavier wire is also fine and has no penalty other than difficulty of bending it and getting it into the terminals.

It was a right pain in the arse to use. Glad to know simple 3A wire is good enough
