The Wire was the best thing I ever saw on telly and Breaking Bad has been recommended to me - where can I get ? The only two things I'm watching at the mo' are 'Revenge' (lightweight but very pretty and really quite post-modern) and Charlie Brooker's Weekly Wipe, which disappointed last week, sadly. More woodshedding time though...

Netflix or DVD. Might be cheaper to get netflix for a few months at £5.99 a month, watch them all, then cancel your subscription (plus you get a month free trial, so if you can watch 4 series in 4 weeks, you'll get it for free).

It's absolutely awesome. Starts off fairly "lightweight", but is getting more and more messed up as each episode ticks by. Brian Cranston is epic. Hard to believe he played the Dad on Malcolm in the Middle!

Get up to the end of season 4 and then leave it.
They have suspended production until middle of this year.

The end of season 4 is a good place to leave it for a bit.
This. I was up to date with the last season, and they finished on a horrific cliffhanger. I've been waiting 6 months for the next episode, and it's not coming out until this summer!

Breaking Bad is superb, I'm currently half way through the 3rd series and taking a break to watch Galactica (which is epic).

The Wire is also superb (though less silly)

Watching this show, I can tell how fantastic it is. But I don't enjoy it in the least. It's so fucking unremittingly dark and depressing, and with shows like this there is only one way to go - darker. And I just cannot be arsed with that much darkness in my life.
I'm back and better than ever.

I distinctly remember a few black comedy bits that lightenend things up, but yeah if you suffer a bit from SAD wait till the Summer.

On the subject, I especially like True Blood in Summer - the hot nights seem to make it better.

Breaking Bad is indeed very good, maybe not quite as good as The Wire but still great

People who enjoy those shows might also wanna try The Sopranos and The Corner

I really, really got into Revenge, to the point when at the local pub quiz they asked what Chambord was made of, at which point I almost shouted out "Revenge, sponsored by Chambord, French Black Raspberry liqueur".

I am really getting into Netflix, over Lovefilm. I've just caned Jericho, and late last year I did Firefly. The good new on that one is that Netflix are doing well enough to start negotiating for another series of Jericho.

I haven't started on Breaking Bad yet, but I feel it's going to be something that I am once again going to cane.
