    Default The Fast Diet

My weight fluctuates periodically - I gain weight when I'm stressed an when the missis is pregnant - when Oliver was born I did nearly 3 stone, spent 3 years trying to drop it. With the second kiddy I've done 2 stone.

It's like a phantom male pregnancy.

Trouble is - I'm not one for diets, they make me real grouchy. But needs must. In the past weight watchers and Atkins have done the trick but they're both a pain in the ass, and once I've lost what I need to, I stop and the weight will slowly creep on again.

However I bring good news. My bro told me about this fast diet, it's been all over the media, the basic idea is you eat what you want for 5 days and then restrict yourself to 600 calories for 2 days, the principle being the reduction in over production on insulin and stopping the storage of glycogen. The science is sound and at only 2 days a week I thought fuck it, that sound like a goer.

So I started a fortnight ago, weighed myself, measured my waist etc and off I went.

A fast day goes like this : breakfast - 2 eggs scrambled, 1 slice brown toast. No lunch - tea bloody big stir fry with one chicken breast and black tea and coffee and water throughout.

The first day was hard as hell, but mid afternoon I went all euphoric, it was amazing, I carried on cycling the 25 mile round trip to work with no ill effect ( my best times have all been set on fast days ), your constantly spurred on by knowing that tomorrow you can eat and drink what you like.

And I do - wine, chocolate curries, beer, even a Maccy D's breakfast - not to excess mind, though I've eaten on the whole healthily and tried to stay below the 2500 calorie mark (except weekends obviously)

The result 10lb lost in 2 weeks and 1.5" off my waist.

This really is a piece of piss - I don't even get hungry on the starve days now. The book is 2 quid in tesco - if like me your a bit of a fatty boom boom, I'd say it could be the best thing ever

A friend of mine is doing that, and is coping very well.

She's a lady so I'm not going to say how much she's lost, but she's looking good.

(Karen - stop reading this and get back to your thesis!)

    Best of luck buddy

Bloke at work is doing it (cos his missus is doing it obv) but he seems pretty chuffed with the whole thing.

I'm massively into exercising now and so eating like a pig

    Anyway, good luck fella

That's the good thing with this - if you exercise as well it just works better!

I'm sceptical, it might just be a fad diet, but it seems worth looking into more.

You're right to be sceptical, he changes his amps more often than he changes his skiddies.

Well that's what I thought - but I work in science and biology and the science behind it makes absolute sense
