Bypassing a speaker in a 2x12

I've got a G12h30 and Gold in an open back cab. Nice blend with my AC30, for recording I'd like to have the option of just using the Gold on its own so I can push it harder and get a little compression going on.

My question is thus - Can I do something simple like stick a switch between the spare terminals on the G12h30 so that it shorts the + and - together?

If they're in series, yes - or just wrap a paper clip around the terminals.

Not if they're in parallel, you'll short the cab. If so just disconnect one wire to the H30.

Cheers ICBM, I thought as much but wanted to make sure I'd not overlooked something. One nice thing is that on this setup, even if something did go wrong with the switch in the middle of a gig at worst it'd make the cab 50w/8 ohm instead of 60/16. Think I'll give it a go. I have a feeling that a single pushed gold isn't going to be far off from two pushed blues. At the moment, the gold is a little more glassy on top and has a bit tighter bass with overdrive than the blues I used to have but then, that's how the blue is when it's not being pushed - it's just that with an ac30 they start compressing at about the point the amp starts breaking up.

I finally got round to this last night and what do you know, it works! Gonna try it at real man volume tonight, might even do some clips.
