    Default Epiphone Valve Junior mods?

Got a rather tasty little Valve Jr from Arktik83 yesterday. I hadn't played one before and I'm really quite impressed.

I bought it as an intended project so I'm looking at mods for it already. Has anyone done any in the past? I'm particularly looking at VVR/attenuators and tone stacks (likely with a switch to remove the tone as desired). Has anyone done any of those?

Would rather do stuff myself than send to someone like ratvalveamps.com

I'd leave it alone. It's a good amplifier on its own, and it responds well to pedals so if there's a sound you want that's not in it naturally you can get it with whatever pedals you front-end it with.

This guy has it right. That said, an attenuator can be worthwhile, if you like the sound of it cranked. I love cranked amp tones, so I use one. But as a clean platform, the valve junior is pretty good, and a total bargain.

I would normally agree, but I bought it as much as a learning project as a basic amp!

Haha! Fair enough, good shout! It's a popular modding amp, so there is plenty of info out there. I'd start here

    http://duhvoodooman.com/vjr/vjr_mods.htm

It has both photos and circuit diagrams, as well as good explanations (though bad colour scheme!), which should help with understanding.

On Ebay there#s a bloke called " alnicomagnet".
He does a number of kits/mods for the VJ

The MK1 can sound particularly rough and needs modding. Did my MK1, now no buzzing at all, sounds great and can be switched down to 1.5 watts from 5. Still bloody loud though.

    Have fun with the VJ!!!!

I bought an EVJ to mod but never got round to it.
I always intended getting an alnicomagnet kit from eBay, as rolls1392 mentioned. Plenty of good reports about his kits.
He has a site too: http://alnicomagnet.co.uk/category/mod_kit_epiphone/
