Default Happy then sad and now needing valve advice!

Some of you might remember me starting a thread a few weeks ago about Agnew amps.

Well I decided to get one and bought it from the Honkin' Harmonica shop on Saturday.

It's just arrived today and looks rather snazzy IMO (apart from the C Agnew logo) -

Unfortunately one of the valves has been damaged in transit - it looks like the power plug has bashed against the 6V6 valve and shattered it

I've emailed the seller and he's said we'll sort something out, I'm happy for him to send me a replacement valve (as long as the amp still works of course!).

So here's the question I have for the techs, I have a spare TAD EL34B valve, the base pins look the same size as the 6V6 so would it be ok to temporarily use that in the amp until the replacement 6V6 arrives?

    Thanks!

No. Or not without some in-depth investigation anyway.

It *might* be, but definitely don't just plug the valve in and try it.

Cheers John, I'll just leave it until I get a 6V6 then. Bloody frustrating! Thanks again.

Just so you know, I'm looking forward to an in depth review of this. I'd love a tweed circuit and was going to build my own, but these seem a bargain!

I finally received the replacement valve last Tuesday (vendor actually sent me a full set of pre, post and rectifier ones - result!) so have been able to have a play with the amp and I like it a lot. Haven't been able to try it at any real volume in the house but it sounds great and takes pedals really well.

There'sa couple of minor flaws in the tweed finish but nothing that I wouldn't expect for an amp in this price range.

Overall I'm very pleased with it!
