Default What mic for hanging over the guitar cab ?

For sure this is an oldie goldie, but band is fed up with sound balance problems in small spaces and we are going to mic up the two guitars through the PA. Want to keep it simple, do not want to be carting around extra mic stands. Seen mics hanging over cabs a million times but never thought to see what was being used.
    Recommendations please O wise ones.

^ Then you can use the ole faithful SM57 (or whatever you fancy).

I reckon you could cobble one of those up with a RockBottom sashcramp and a bit of work for a tenner!

Thank you both. Now I'm in a discussion with my bandmate over which to buy

I use the E906, can't stand using 57's and find them very difficult to sound right especially if not using a stand.

There's also http://www.ampclamps.com/ which I can vouch for.

Another vote for the Senn E906

Not only is it fine just hanging but it will pick up much less drum spill than a 57

I used a screw on goose neck years ago, the male piece was screwed into the front of my combo and the goose neck screwed onto that to hold the mic. But with a 609 or 906 you won't need to bother

Just a quick point in a live situation you won't hear a difference between the 609 and 906

Oh, don't hang it over the front, pointing at the floor ! Is the floor producing your sound ? No. Get a little stand. They look cool and help you point a mic in the direction the sound is coming from.
