Default VOX Cooltron pedals going CHEAP!!!!!!

at Sound Control - they're all £49 valve powered pedals that were reviewed in the mag a while back and all £100+ so at least half price!! I ran out of the shop screaming in fear for my empty pockets.

Some of the marketing spiel is hilarious.

Our ears dislike the odd harmonics as they are not harmonically related to the fundamental tone.
Right. Harmonics that aren't harmonic. Thank fuck Vox don't make nuclear power stations.

    [edit] There's better!

a servo circuit wich fools the valve into thinking it is operating at a much higher voltage
Right. Fools the valve. Because valves are usually such shrewd, canny, street-smart operators.

The Brit Boost is crap, i had one and sold it, if you must throw away money on one of those Vox fake valve pedals go for the Bulldog distortion, its much more useful.

You know how some pedals kind of look cool - way before you've even tried it. I suppose in much the same was as guitars, keys etc.. Vox pedals just dont do that for me. They look kind of ugly.... Havent tried any but do remember a couple of people on the web complain they sounded a bit shit. Probably bollox though.

For £50 it's almost* worth getting one for hacking / tonebending purposes - at least there's no danger of getting 480 volts up the arm with one of these. I wonder why it uses a 12AU7 tho... Hmmm.

    *Almost, but not quite.

I suspect it wouldn't make a great deal of difference what valve was used.

They are ugly things. Vox designs are usually so nice. Missed the mark with these pedals: clearly why they are being sold off. I've never used one but I remember being extremely unimpressed by the demos I heard of them.

In one of the reviews that were released when they first hit the market they said "we cant work out exactly what the valve is doing but we like it" lol
Any thing that has a bulb to illuminate the valve is doing so because its not running at normal voltages.
I think the marketing is aimed at people who are more interested in valves than performance, silly really...
You might as well cellotape a preamp valve to a behringer OD pedal and say "hey I've got a valve pedal"
