I have recently started attempting to sing. I used to be very 'shy' about this in the past, because admittedly my voice is not very good. But I am older and bolder now. I care much less about making a fool of myself !
I know about things like vocal range now, and understand music better. So I know what to sing, how to pick songs with attainable pitches and how to practice scales, arpeggios and such. Hitting whatever notes I am capable is a task I know how to "train" through.
My problem however comes with something else, articulation. I just cannot move my speech instruments (mouth/lips etc) fast enough and in a co-ordinated way. I had forgotten I used to have the same issue with normal speaking when I was a kid. I used to mumble/slur words, finding it very hard to speak loudly and clearly. Its like my mouth is submerged in treacle.
I am now getting this problem with singing, I am failing to sing the most basic of songs at moderate tempo's. I just cannot articulate fast and accurate enough.
Does anyone have any tips/exercises for training through this?
