    Default Marshall JVM users

While looking at various different models of Marshall head's, I find myself drawn to the JVM models, due to the massive felxibility they appear to provide.

Been looking at the 210h and 410h. I've been advised by a few people to go with the 410 out of the two, however I reckon the 410 might be overkill for my needs, but then the 210 not quite providing quite enough of what I'd use. Although adding an OD/boost pedal or two would sort that out I reckon. Just wondered a couple of things, that might help me make up my mind a bit more.

I've never used MIDI, but this sounds very appealing in theory, but my head is full of potentially daft questions! One thing I'd like to know here is, if i set up my clean channel on the green mode, super clean with no gain, and saved this preset - could I then dime the gain, still on the green channel and then save this as another preset? Or does the MIDI just remember that I had green mode selected, as opposed to orange/red, and the gain would be dependant on where the knob on the front panel is set at the time?

    Does that make sense?

    Get the Satriani model.

Channel change time lag is gone.

The Midi just switches channel and mode (and things like FX/Master Volume/Reverb), the sounds are still set by the dials, so you can't have 2 different settings on 1 mode.

I used to have a JVM and there a marmite thing.. people love them or hate them.

aye, i read up about the lag and watched a few vids - I can hear it, but it's not a major concern for me, although I will reserve judgement until I can play

I'm not buying brand new either, I'm guessing there'll be very little -> no chance of seeing a used Satch model for sale....

410 is great but the crunch channel I find far too muddy for anything decent. Personally, I would go Satch model but, if you cant get one of them, for got the 410.

Other consideration is the 25th Anniversary jobs.

That's how it works from the Marshall foot switch. I haven't used a dedicated MIDI switcher so don't know if that may be possible with one of those.

And as you know, the lag is not a practical issue for many JVM users, (including me), but clearly drives some people nuts so you'd be right to try one and see if it would bother you. It probably depends how you use it I guess. I tend to dial in a basic channel for a song then use pedals and volume pot for the dynamics of that song. BTW I haven't noticed any lag when kicking in the second Master Volume or the FX loop. Those are instant.

yeah, I'm kinda confused - I'll need to try one out and see.

Cos isn't having 128 MIDI allocations gonna be silly if it won't remember that setting 1 was OD1/Red mode/Full gain, but setting 2 is OD1/Red mode/half gain?

The 128 midi allocation come in handy when you use it with a midi capable multi fx. So your channela nd mode basically become part of your multi-fx patch.
