Default DMX BPM sync from live drums

Does anyone know how to generate midi clock from a live drummer, so the DMX light automation is exactly in sync with the band ?
I've worked out how to program chase scenes and how to sync from midi via a click track but there must be some way to create midi clock from a gadget triggered via the drummer, ie something that listens and decides the BPM when fed from a kick or snare send.

Anyone got any DMX experience in setting this up or is it only possible with a click?

Yeah see if you can find out mate, much appreciated. By the way, what is your job cos it sounds more interesting than mine ?

We loaned out our new DMX lights last night to another band. A big fogger, 8 scanners, 8 Parkhands and 2 DMX floor floods. I've never been that interested in lights but it made a huge difference. Even on sound to light and some DMX presets with manual switching of the Parkhands it made the gig look like a real show rather than a normal pub gig.

Sorry Bob, I emailed the lighting guy but didn't get a reply. As it happens I had to go round there tonight and had a look, it's this one here :

He gave me a demo of some of the presets, some of them are a bit disco to me. What I'm looking for is our own pre programmed chase's that lock in to the drummer rather than relying on the built in sound to music or tempo tap. Not for every song but for some Floyd covers we do in particular and some other moody stuff.

    Cheers
