I've been offered a new job , but less money but I won't have to work shifts, bigger company so better chance of progression. .... What do you think?

I guess it depends whether it's a question of 24k/20k or 54k/50k?

Regular work hours and a better quality of life are certainly worth a bit of a cut though, imo, assuming the rest of the job is similar/better.

Same distance I cycle so no cost, no benefits in current jobs lots in new.... I've asked the guy to see if any movement on salary so I will wait and see, another winter of cycling home at 8pm does not fill me with glee

I would take the cut. You seem like you want to. Take your chance and get off the shiftwork.( especially if it includes nights!)
