    Default Rivera Chubster 40, opinions?

I have seen a few of these around recently and wondered if anyone who had one or has played one could let me know what they think of the amp?

Had one years ago, very versatile, good quality and full of great tones. Really beautiful clean channel which I loved it for, then Marshall-esque gain channel which wasn't so much to my taste. Probably would have kept mine longer but my Chub developed killer tube rattle...can't remember if I swapped out tubes to try to eliminate the issue or just tried dampers...really been too long since I had it! Good amps though!

Thanks for that, all input is appreciated as there doesn't seem to be much online about them

I have one - I love it, supremely versatile. If you are a "guitar" player and not a one trick monkey, you'll love it

Could you elaborate a little on that mate? I am very much about getting a good clean tone and building from there upwards, obviously if the 2nd channel is good then even better, however I am yet to hear a 2 channel amp that I like both channels.

I had a DRRI for about 3 days and shipped it out because the treble on the vibrato channel was ridiculous, any such things with the chubster that you wish you'd known before you got it?

well, there are some that only play a particular type of music/want a single specific type of sound from an amp.........and this might well not fit that niche. Its trump card is its versatility.......... it makes a great stab at fendery cleans and reasonably marshally OD accross the two channels, with the appropriate 'buttons'

For a 'covers' type player or simply someone who plays accross all genres, its a great amp - I find the deep cab, really helps fill out the cleans/warm cleans at lower volumes.........which can often get 'tinny' on smaller boxes

I have one and I haven't been looking at other amps at all since getting it (although I did buy a Rivera rake head on the strengths of the chubby). Go try one out if you can, if you can't then just buy one anyway cos they're an absolute steal secondhand. I know it's all subjective but I just love the tone of it, gets me exactly where I wanna be. Now if only I could play well enough to warrant owning it I'd be happy

I have a Chubster 40, I came to it as the logical conclusion of a love affair that that started with a Clubster 45 via a brief dalliance with an R30 and yeah like Bertie says if you had to have one amp to do it all I don't think you could do much better than the Chub with maybe a drive pedal added for the reeeelllly high gain stuff. Seems silly to say but that deeper cabinet does seem to add some real chunk & depth to the delivery that belies it's physically compact form.
