    Default Urgent (ish!) help needed...........

Got my bonus today so have been buying my PA stuff. Got a mixer & x/over from Jamieh. Picked up a mic from fleabay so all is coming on well. However, I've just been SEVERLEY let down. Let me explain.....

At work we use an A/V company for stages, lights, etc at corporate events. This company done the sound for Led Zep @ O2 and Live8. Basically, they're nto shit to say the least. Well they sell off their old stuff every now and again and I was due to get two 3kW power amps worth over £3k today for £500. They just called and said that they've sold them to someone else. Not amused. Really really not amused. Fucking raging in fact.

Well, what's my options now? I've been looking at something like these :

But I've heard conflicting opinions of Behringer stuff.

    Any thoughts/opinions?

That sort of power for that sort of money and a "good" make is going to be tricky, I think - I had a look at what Cloud and Crown have but even the Crown XLS range would only get you about 1.2kW for £500.

I can get Crown XS900's for £299. That a good buy?

That's about half the price I'd expect - certainly the price is good. Crown are good - I've used the XLS range and they're excellent; the XS ought to be even better but I've not tried them myself.

I also just spoke to our big-and-loud-audio chap, and he reckons the Behringers are actually fine.

So you reckon I should go for the link above:?

I've not used 'em myself, but he knows his stuff so you're probably fine with them.

I wouldn't bother with the Behringer, for live PA it's not worth taking the chance. If the output stage goes DC then there goes your speakers as well! Crown is a better bet but like most companies they do amps for the cheaper end of the market as well as the professional range. Shame about losing the other amps though.

I like Behringer stuff because it's great value for money and generally does an extremely good job.

However, I have heard bad things about the reliability of their power amps.

My own "big" rig uses the 2.4kW one of these:

    http://www.hartnollguitars.co.uk/sea...-Amps&catid=15

No problems with it at all and shit loads of power.... fecking heavy though. Sadly none available right now.

When I spoke to the suppliers about these (they also supply Behringer) they said that of the cheaper power amps they sell these are the most reliable.... 2 years later I can't say they were wrong!

The second power amp in my "big" rig is a Peavey PV1500 - which I also rate quite highly, Peavey do make very good PA stuff IMHO.

Well thanks for the inputs. I've changed my mid slightly now. Adding up amps, cabs, etc was getting expensive. My Mrs' Mum works for Sound Control and got me a good deal on Mackie SRM450's. They're powered so no need for amp. I think they will do nicely for the time being and will become monitors when the PA is upgraded.

That renders the X-over I've just bought from Jamieh useless for the time being though!? Need to get some subs now!
