    Default Alesis DM5

I've been looking at this drum module for a while, and I've seen the DM5 pro kit for £324 online. To me that seems a superb deal. and from demo's on the website and also youtube, it seems exactly what i'm looking for. Obviously in a perfect world, id pay more and get a yamaha, but money is an object for me!

anyone got any 1st hand experience on this kit? I've had a few goes on some rolands and other higher end ones and been very impressed. Will I be super disapppointed with something like this?

I'm probably going to buy it in the next few days.

They're about the best out there for the kind of money they cost. Full MIDI in/out/through on the brain, so it'll fit into most applications; if you can stretch to the DM5 Pro it's a worthwhile stretch though. The standard DM5 kit only has 2 'toms' and the pads are all pretty naff rubber (but then, once you've played mesh most rubber pads feel naff), and they're all single-zone (so no snare rim-shots or ride cymbal bell), but as a starter kit or just for knocking about on it's great.

I think (but don't quote me) that the DM5 module has enough trigger inputs to put chokable cymbals, a dual-zone snare and ride or hats on there later too.

    cheers beagle,

it was the pro set i was looking at, I was thinking the snare would be dual trigger. I've seen a different pad set with a mesh snare but with the dm5 module, but thats pushing it up towards the yamaha dtxpress 4 level.

but from what i've heard, and what you've just said, it definitely seems the best option for me.

They're quite alright, but no rim shots or chokable cymbals as standard.

Good point TJG, I think that would annoy a bit, although they definitely look the best out of te other sets for this price.

what about this set? Sounds not too bad actually, for roughly the same price.

As far as features 'out of the box' go that looks better. Pads won't be as nice though, but you pays your money...

ive played the Dm5 pro kit and it was quite nice to play, but the Roland kit at uni (bout 500) is alot nicer and think id just save and buy that. Although if you can get away without the things on the Dm5 pro its a good kit.

I found a place to try one in chatham Kent.
