    Default Recommend me a pedal

I've just come into a small amount of money (£40) through some external examining I did. I'm thinking I'll put this towards another pedal for my (currently small) collection. So what shall I start saving up towards?

    At the moment I've got:
    • Marshall Shredmaster: great for metal-type sounds, but certainly not the most subtle sound
    • Marshall Supervibe chorus
    • Ibanez Soundtank Digital Delay: not the greatest delay in the world, with limitations on repeat time, so worth replacing sometime
    • Zoom G1X Multieffects unit: quite cheap, so not something I want to rely on forever. I do make use of its tuner facility and the built in metronome/drum machine when practicing. For the moment it will do when filling in the sounds I don't have.

I don't plan on getting a wah for a while... I struggle with keeping the two hands working together without introducing a foot into the picture. So what thoughts do you have?

    A better delay.
Depending on what music you play, a boost/overdrive?

I would get a second hand SD-1 or BD-2 off the bay and send for the appropriate mod from Monte Allums. Alternatively have a look at a couple of the Behringer or Dano range, the cork sniffers get all pissy on you but the right ones are excellent VFM.

Bump... to achieve more votes and opinions.

The overdrive seems the most popular... hmm... what's a good overdrive sound?

    2 approaches :

    1. be guided by the (admittedly not great quality) fx in your multifx to see what fx you like the flavour of, and go for one of those

    2. Get an overdrive pedal - something that would sit between clean and Shreadmaster soundwise. I like the idea above about a s/h Boss and mod kit, but even without that there are lots of decent overdrives - it's just a a matter of taste (and to a lesser degree matching with your other gear) Personally I like the BD-2 - it's a useful 'leave on all the time' pedal for mid-ground overdrive sounds, and the Monte Allums mod improves it further (although it's already good)
    Red ones are better.

If you're gigging you should get yourself a good tuner pedal especially if you want rid of the Zoom thingy. The boss tu-2 is great but a bit out of your price range. Try the Korg or Fender ones.

tuner pedal market just got interesting - a couple of new true bypass ones are available :

    http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/s...oduct_id/36971 - nice and diddy

http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/s...oduct_id/24840 - bit bgger but still TB if that's important

to add to what I said earlier - a phaser pedal can be fun - on a nice subtle setting it can add a bit of 'motion' to any sound and liven things up

For delays I'd just grab a used Boss DD-? from eBay - they come up all the time
    Red ones are better.

Depends what your looking for really.

A pedal tuner is a definate if your going to gig, it makes tuning between songs very simple.

If money is a bit tight at the moment, and your not gigging for a while then I'd agree with the other posters about getting an overdrive pedal. Something like a used bad monkey is gonna set you back £20, or £35ish new, then use the left over to put towards the tuner.

Keep an eye on ebay, used fx pedals can be good buys as if you dont like them you can usual move them and lose little if any of your initial outlay.

Having said that I thought that with a bit of tweaking your shredmaster should be able to do more subtle stuff.

Another thought if your not gigging is a couple of the behringer pedals, you'd get a pair for £40. The only reason I said if your nor gigging is most folk are weary of plastic enclosures/switches.
Stuff for sale: SG Standard, Laney VC30, loads of pedals!
