    Overdrive dude..

A Marshall blues breaker II allows you to switch between boost and overdrive, and gives quite a creamy OD sound. I sold mine for £25 a couple of years ago.

    ...or a phaser.

Again - use your multi fx to find a modulation you really like. I did just that and got me a EHX small stone (coz I wanna try analogue from now on), and I lurve this pedal. Sounds cool when mixed with my amp's stereo chorus - can't do that with most floor based multi fx!

Ok... sounds like overdrive it is... which is likely to be far more useful than the Shredmaster if they ever let me loose to play in church (though hell may need to freeze over before that happens).

So I need to find somewhere to try out a Digitech Bad Monkey, Boss SD-1, Boss BD-2 and a Marshall Bluesbreaker II.

I notice that there are lots of rave comments about the Ibanez Tube-Screamer, which appears to be similar, but way way way more expensive, to some of the above.

    Tubescreamers are over-rated imo.

My local shops have very poor stock - but have all of those. they're ubiquitous enough that it should be easy to track them all down - probably even in the one shop
    Red ones are better.
