    Default Feeling utterly pedalled out

I am dangerously close to selling the lot and just using roland cubes. It's just such a faff.

They just multiply into a logistical nightmare. They're all lined up in front of the amps now, looking at me.

I'm going into the other room to play with the microcube.

Put the naughty ones in a box. When you think they're sorry enough take them out and play with them again.

It's the only way they'll learn.

Yup, the 'naughty box'. Naughty stair doesn't work because you'll come flinging down one morning and bust your heel on a 3PDT switch.
    OVAVO!

'tis true. I was using my cube for practice last night and since the delay is a bit weedy I used the whammy bar on my guitar for a kind of woo-woo-woo section in the middle of a song. I usually use delay for that and I've always struggled to get it sounding good. Anyway last night everyone said it was the best it had ever sounded

Makes me think I could get away with dumping pedals entirely and going straight into the amp. The only thing I would struggle with is getting a solo boost. I use an award session solo booster (volume control in a box) in the fx loop usually. Would be great to avoid using the fx loop at all.

Would an equaliser in front of the amp be a good idea for getting a solo boost?

Depends if it's a valve amp or not; with a valve one you'll probably find the boost will just make you more distorted, not necessarily louder.
If you're up for the challenge it's great to try getting your volume boost from the guitar - easy on a Les Paul-type (just set one pickup with your rhythm sound and a bit quieter than the other, instant solo boost when you flip the switch), harder on Strats (although whacking a higher-output pup in one position works wonders).
Or you could just use the volume control on the guitar, but I find it a bit inaccurate.

Yeah, I've been round this problem a few times - it is a valve amp and any additional boost in front of the amp just results in more distortion, which is why I have ended up with a footswitchable volume pot in the fx loop (basically a footswitchable master volume I guess)...but the fx loop does suck tone on my amp (DSL-50) quite noticeably, plus there's the additional 9m of cable it has to run through I suppose.

Rapid pickup switching is not really an option on my guitar - it's a PRS CE and it has that rotary 5-way which doesn't lend itself to accurate switching with sweaty hands under pressure! Also, guitar volume seems to result in more / less gain rather than volume changes per se.

I was wondering if I use an equaliser in front of the amp I could boost the mids / treble and help the signal to cut through more, rather than going for a pure volume boost.

Or I guess I could use a loop pedal to switch the loop in and out...actually that wouldn't work, because the volume pot in the loop attenuates the signal unless switched off, so if I bypassed the loop I would be on solo volume at all times...

I get like that all the time! I put most of my pedals under the bed and use them one or two at a time.
