    Default 6DB : The "6-Dirt Board" ...

... is taking shape. The 'Rectifier Tri-Gain' modded DS-1 and Zoom Tri-Metal arrived today but I've not had chance to try them yet.

To get them on the board I've had to ditch the wah - although it's actually getting any use at the minute so it's not the end of the world.

    So currently it comprises:

    Tuner (DT-10)
    Tri-Metal
    DS-1 mod
    Hyper Lead
    BD-2 mod
    Power Drive
    Ultra Fuzz
    Compressor (CS-3 mod)
    Chorus (CE-2)
    Phaser (BYOC Phase 90)
    Flanger (MXR EVH)
    Delay DD-3 mod
    Reverb (Marshall Reflector)
    EQ (GE-7 mod)

    mwahahahaha

You can just set the 6 dirt pedals with different EQs and very quickly switch between them to simulate a wah.

I *think* that if I whacked all the dirt pedals on one side of a 2-loop bypass loop, and the fx in the other side of it, and could then afford to wedge them all in at jaunty angles (as access on the fly is less of an issue) and have some different length cables, it might all cram on there. Just

    But for now it's workable.

I REALLY want to fire it up and try these new pedals

I hate the sound of my rig through headphones but love it 'properly' - there's no way I'd be able to give an opinion on 'em that way.

Could you do a switching device that ran these distortion pedals in their own TB loops but also had a step sequencer that allowed sequential and random step sequence through the 6 pedals? Cos that would be rather cool and probably useful for some real outlandish guitar sounds if you used it with a distortion, a phaser, a chorus, a reverb, etc.

Tim, I got a DS-1 yesterday, the Monte Allums kit is in the post. I wanna hear what you think of it before I mod mine!

well ok then - I have just given that a go - dragged it nearer the PC and fed the board in to Gearbox set to a clean Marshall.

Through my phones it doesn't sound anything near nice and natural but I was at least able to compare with the other pedals.

Sure enough the Tri-Metal seems as though it will be much better for metally rhythm than the Hyper Lead (which is currently having to do gainy-lead and gainy-rhythm) and the modded DS-1 clearly has a large range of sounds in there with the toggle switch - but it needs investigating at volume to be sure it'll do my Mesa-ish/Foos-ish sound that I'm hoping it will cover.

is your wah a Boss V-wah? or am i thinking of somene else, if it is i think it needs a little trolley to attach it to the board just so you have another few drive options, i mean, who ONLY has 6 really?

    Yes.

Though with relays you do risk pops doing fast switching. Probably better done with solid state switches.
