    Anyways.

    I am increasingly fond of the Variax. It has an awful lot of really, really good sounds in it. Certainly some (12-strings, I'm looking at you) that aren't great. At all. But the semis and the jazzboxes and the strat and the LP Special are really nice, and the sitar has its uses and the acoustics are probably better than I could ever hope to record myself with a mic (and miles ahead of a piezo imitation).

    If it had a nice shaped body and a neck without hideous cream dot inlays it'd be a really, really nice instrument.

    I am aware that I was a Variax naysayer - even a basher - for a good few years, but it seems I was wrong.

    Very well padded, which was a problem for me when I was trying to add additional padding when I was packaging it. I couldn't fit much more in!
