In my case it's basically because I don't like it. I'd rather take a VOS guitar and de-VOS it then 'VOS' it up with my own DNA! lol I'm not against relics etc etc as such, just that I'd prefer to do my own scratches and used patina.

I don't think the VOS look is particularly accurate either as it's basically a layer of polishing gunk that has been left on from the factory. Completely different kettle of fish I know but I'd expect my new car to have at least been washed and waxed before buying it and not having to pay an upcharge for somebody to clean it!

    Cheers

LOL cant argue with that. Im learning to do finishing atm from a friend so once im happy with what i can do im going to refin my 245 in a darkburst nitro instead, not really for any tonal reasons, more because i like how it looks and feels as it ages and cracks/fades etc

That sounds great I'd love to learn that kind of thing too, very interested in building my own. John (JXG Guitars) has a Custom build on the go just now for me and I'm looking forward to that enormously.

Hopefully I'll get time over the next few months to start learning for myself....again, watch this space! lol

Cheers and hope the re-fin works out, let me know how it goes if you don't mind,

Will do, itll be a while till i can bring myself to do it (if i even do!) as its a great guitar and im almost scared to change anything on it in case i lose the magic lol!!!!!!! Ill be learning by a guy who owns a custom-built surfboard company, he sprays every type of finish but hasnt ever had to get it as thin as im aiming for so its a learning curve for both of us, just havent had much time yet when the both of us have been free and not in the pub lol!

Sounds good, hope it works out as there's always the slight chance of losing the 'mojo' of any guitar when modifying it, I got 'lucky' with this one I suppose

    Very lucky....

    Cheers mate
