Sounds like the e-Bay buyer ballsed it up

    Aye.

Seems bloody cheeky to return a pickup he's cut the wire off.

I've stripped the black tape off the outside of the pickup (the individual coils themselves are still wrapped) to uncover the ends of each coil of pickup wire. This reveals two white wires, soldered together but not connected to anything else, one black wire soldered to the base, and another black wire soldered to the main wire coming out of the pickup.

I'm guessing white = hot, black = ground

Using a testmeter, I get a decent signal between the tips of the white wire/s and the shield on the main wire (ie the outer wrapping, ground).

If the above is right, then shouldn't the two white wires be connected to the core of the main pickup wire somewhere/somehow? I'm guessing that the problem is that the "hot" connection has been broken ... hence no signal through the main wire.

It's got to be quite difficult to completely break a pickup, surely??
