Ah, if we're not including basses that makes me feel a bit better. So all I actually need is six (Strat, Tele, hollowbody, steel-string, reso, twelve-string), although something with a Les Paul-style setup would be nice (ICEMAN!)

Got 11 guitars and 2 bass guitars.

Justification??? Alternate tunings.... Mrs understands that some songs are in different tunings but doesnt know the techncial bit for the guitars. No one tell her about the Variax/Fender/Gibson please.....

However 2 are in bits, one is at a mates house, 2 I dont like so never play, I hardly touch the accoustic. I do have one in standard, one half step drop, one full step drop, one in drop d and one for "other tunings" that are close to hand.

    Still want more though.....

    Reality is cos I can.
when do I go from learning guitar to playing guitar?

I think it's totally justifiable to have a handful around the house for tunings - I've now got the Tele in open G, hollowbody in E flat standard, will have the Strat in standard once I've put it back together, reso in open E or open D, and the normal acoustic changes from day to day (it's kinda my 'go-to' guitar now).

And of course, if you're gigging with them you need spares for onstage...

I saw Biffy Clyro and Simon Neil was changing guitar after every song. His tech was tuning up one guitar while he played the other and as he properly twats it I wasn't surprised.

Reason A) Simply because he can
Reason B) Each guitar may have subtle differences that he feels he needs for each song.

I have fifteen guitars (I think), a mandolin, a piano, and a uke somewhere.

    Crikey.
